Aloo Tikki - Appetizers (Veg) |

Makes about 25 aloo tikkis

Potato patties coated with breadcrumbs and fried enjoyed as an appetizer. |

Ingredients |
- 2¼ lb potatoes (pressure-cooked, peeled, and mashed)
- 4–5 green chilies (finely chopped)
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1½ tsp garam masala (blend of Indian spices) or chaat masala powder (spice powder, available at Indian grocery)
- 2 tbsp lime juice
- 1 medium sized onion chopped fine
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 5 to 6 slices of bread16 oz oil for frying
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 6 oz breadcrumbs store-bought

Method |
- Put the mashed potatoes into a bowl. Add the green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, garam masala/chaat masala (both are spice mix powder), salt, lime juice and red chili powder.
- Sprinkle a little water on the bread and pat to dry, crumble bread to the potatoes mixture and mix well and portion out potatoes mixture and form equally sized round lets (tikki) flatten with palms of your hands and shape tikkis (patties) in a circular shape .
- Take some breadcrumbs in a plate and dip the patties to cover both sides with bread crumbs and deep fry on medium heat on both sides to a golden brown color, remove from oil and drain onto paper towel and serve hot.
- Fat-free cooking: Instead of deep-frying, heat a flat non-stick griddle, spray the griddle with cooking spray, place 3 to 4 patties on the griddle, and cook both sides to a crisp and brown color.
- Enjoy hot patties (tikkis) with coriander chutney (recipe in this book) or tomato ketchup.
